Extension of the South-Bohemian D3 motorway to Budweis (České Budějovice), the D11 from Hradec Králové towards Poland and the D35 to Olomouc. The extensions of the D3, D11 and D35 motorways will start soon

The Czech motorway network will grow in the coming years – dozens of kilometres of new motorway sections will be added. Construction of priority transportation structures will be most visible during this year and at the turn of 2017 and 2018. Here, the government managed to negotiate an exemption from the new EIA process.

At its meeting, the government received information that the Ministry of the Environment issued positive standpoints needed for filing the building permit application. To be specific, this applies to motorways D1 Říkovice – Přerov; D3 Úsilné – Hodějovice – Třebonín; D11 Hradec Králové – Smiřice – Jaroměř; D49 Hulín – Fryšták; D55 Otrokovice bypass and modernisation of the railway corridor in section Sudoměřice – Votice. Binding standpoints are expected to be issued for the remaining three priority transportation projects no later than during February 2017. This involves motorways D35 Opatovice – Ostrov; D48 Frýdek-Místek bypass; and new D6 sections.

Regarding these priority construction projects, the tenders for the general contractor for these new sections are currently being evaluated. The Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic (RSD CR) continues with settling the property matters and applies for building permits with competent building authorities. After all necessary permits have been issued, construction can start. This will happen in the second half of 2017 and/or no later than at turn of 2017 and 2018. The building proceedings will depend not only on the Ministry of Transportation, but also on other competent authorities and the public involved. Construction of the new sections will take three years on average.

Most construction works will be concentrated on the D1 Brno motorway, the South-Bohemian D3 and the D11 Hradec Králové motorway

In 2017 modernisation of the most heavily used D1 motorway between Prague and Brno will start. Construction will continue on the four sections where work started already in 2016: 06 Psáře – Soutice (opening in November), 15 Jihlava – Velký Beranov, 18 Měřín – Velké Meziříčí (opening in October), west and section 22 Velká Bíteš – Devět Křížů (opening in November). Once the construction season can start, work will commence on two more sections 10 Hořice – Koberovice and 20 Velké Meziříčí východ – Lhotka.

This year, nine kilometres of the South-Bohemian D3 motorway will open for drivers: Veselí nad Lužnicí – Bošilec and Borek – Úsilné. Construction on another 20 kilometres of the D3 motorway (Úsilné – Hodějovice – Třebonín) will start in the second half of 2017.

The D11 Hradec Králové motorway will not stay behind either, as the last almost 4km section to Hradec Králové will open. Preparation works and the archaeological survey will start in section Hradec Králové – Smiřice – Jaroměř.
