The D1 reconstruction in front of Prague is coming to the final phase. The asphalt top cover will be completed in two weeks between km 12 and 16 of the most heavily used Czech motorway. In September and October three more modernised D1 sections will be opened as well, so almost 90 km of the D1 motorway will have been repaired and modernised.

"I checked how the reconstruction work progresses at km 15 of the D1 motorway. About 90 000 cars pass this point every day. A have good news for all drivers: works follow the schedule and will be completed on August 31, the restrictions will be removed and from Saturday Oct 1 on drivers can start using the new section without restrictions," says the transport minister Dan Ťok.

Eurovia is the contractor for the road surface repair and will return to the D1 near Prague next April and start repairing the left section of the motorway between km 9.5 and km 12. The whole reconstruction will cost CZK 250 million excl. VAT.

Two more sections on the D1 will open for drivers during September, the construction of which is done during motorway operation: section No. 10 between Hořice and Koberovice and section No. 20 at Velké Meziříčí and Lhotka. And in October also section No. 4 between Ostředek and Šternov will be opened.

"It is still this year that we are opening another 19.5 km of the modernised D1 – this means that 13 sections out of 20 are completed now, i.e almost 90 km of the new D1," minister Ťok adds.

The total cost of the D1 modernisation before the tenders started in 2013 was estimated at CZK 24 billion and we are currently at CZK 20 billion. RSD wants to have all sections modernised by 2021. At present there are 69 km of the modernised D1 motorway in operation and 33 under reconstruction.
