Today, the government approved a series of measures to support the transport sector, which is also affected by measures introduced in connection with the spread of COVID-19 in Europe. The payments of toll and road tax will be postponed for truck transportation companies. Investment in traffic infrastructure will be strengthened and commuters travelling between the Czech Republic and Slovakia or Poland should also be helped.

“In the current situation, I want to support important areas of our economy. The transport package approved by the government will help not only road transportation companies, but also construction companies, which can expect the budget of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure to be increased by 6.5 billion to a record 113 billion CZK,“ says Minister of Transport and Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček.

RSD will have to prepare projects for repairs and maintenance or investments in state roads as soon as possible and SŽDC is to prepare further investments in railways amounting to the total of 3.5 billion beyond the current budget.

Transportation companies carrying goods on roads should be helped by postponed payment of toll and road tax. It should be possible to pay toll invoices for trucks within 3 months for vehicles in the post-payment mode (invoice payment) in the period from 4 to 31 July 2020.

According to the government's decision, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Transport and the Minister of the Interior are expected to work out further steps to extend the rotation regime for workers from Slovakia and Poland and also for specialized workers from other EU countries, as the case may be. A system similar to that established for Austria and Germany is supposed to be set up for these countries.

The Czech Republic supports the possibility that companies operating in the Central European area can relocate their employees so that there are no outages on construction sites and in production.
