Under the Operational Transport Program has been used about 37 billion CZK and it is clear that most likely we will succeed to draw the entire allocation of the program in early 2016. A considerable credit for the drawdown of the European money has a good cash flow management of the mediating body which is the STIF. During 2016, the Ministry of Transport was responding operatively in the role of the OPD Managing Authority in cooperation with STIF on the current situation with program adjustments and transferring part of the finances from roads to rails where we succeeded to find suitable projects beyond the expected package of investment projects.
"From the perspective of drawing the approved STIF budget, year 2015 became a record-breaking success both in drawing European and national financial resources. I'm glad that we can use the saved-up means to help the regions with the financing of roads again. I would like to have these roads increased a comfort for drivers and that none of them could still be called a tankodrome, as the saying goes. Moreover, in cooperation with the regions we will try to make the repairs were more coordinated and prevent them from overlapping as happened in some cases last year,“ said Minister Dan Tok.
The recipient who has drawn the highest amount from STIF budget in 2015 with a total of 50.2 billion CZK is the Railway Infrastructure Administration. The investments in roads through the Directorate of Roads and Highways reached a total of 34.2 billion CZK and additionally more than 400 mil. CZK was spent on a water infrastructure by the Directorate of Waterways. Another 4.4 billion CZK was invested through the regions and their governmental organizations (Road Maintenance) into a transport infrastructure of individual regions, namely II. and III. class roads. The remaining 2.3 billion CZK was used e.g. in the financing of transport infrastructure in the capital city of Prague, contributory programs announced by STIF with focus on a safety, the construction of bike lanes and new technologies, the costs associated with the production and distribution of vignettes and other smaller investments.
In the Czech Republic in 2015, a total of 117 km of highways and primary roads were built, modernized or repaired. The construction of 70 km of entirely new stretches was launched, continued in the building of almost 30 km of roads and repaired or modernized an additional 20 km of highways. The works mainly concerned D8 (an opening of imaginary gateway to Germany on the route Prague - Dresden), D3 (a connection to Austria), D11 (Hradec Kralove region) and D1 (mainly a modernization). "We want to modernize, repair or build an unprecedented 200 km of roads this year. The STIF budget for this year along with the Czech and European sources put together 65.7 billion CZK,” concluded Minister Dan Tok.
