Don't pay more for an electronic vignette than you have to

These days, an increasing number of people are buying vignettes for this year.  Many of them are contacting the Ministry of Transport and the Czech Trade Inspection Authority with questions and complaints about the sale of overpriced vignettes.

Don't pay more for an electronic vignette than you have to
"For purchasing vignettes we recommend to only use the official website https://edalnice.cz. The pass can also be purchased at the Czech Post offices and the EuroOil petrol stations without additional fees," says Transport Minister Martin Kupka.

Initiated by the Ministry of Transport, The Czech Trade Inspection Authority is dealing with the issue of vendors selling electronic vignettes at places other than the officially established. The authority is focusing primarily on the accuracy and completeness of information about the price of electronic vignettes and related services.

Where vignettes are resold by unauthorised vendors, it is the seller's duty to inform the consumer unambiguously about the price of the electronic vignette, the price charged for the service provided and the total price. The buyer must know from the outset not only the total amount but also the value of the individual items that make up the total price.

"It is entirely up to the discretion of the buyer whether to purchase an electronic vignette from an official vendor at the price set out by the government regulation or at a higher price from other vendors. However, he should always be informed about the price of the vignette itself, the price of the service and the conditions under which the electronic vignette including the service is offered to him," says Jan Štěpánek, Central Director of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.

Fixed prices are set by a government regulation, according to which an annual vignette costs CZK 1,500, a 30-day vignette CZK 440 and a 10-day vignette CZK 310. As of the 1st of March, the annual fee for motorway use will change to CZK 2,300, with a 30-day pass priced at CZK 430, a 10-day pass at CZK 270 and a one-day pass at CZK 200. All current types of vignettes can be purchased thirty days in advance at https://edalnice.cz
