The Minister of Transport officially kickstarted the construction of the relocation of the I/16 road Slaný – Velvary. Once this road is in the new position, the traffic (which is very heavy in this area) will be diverted outside the residential development of Slaný and adjacent municipalities. The construction of the relocation will also improve the connection between the D8 Ústí motorway with the I/7 road and the connecting D7 motorway.

"Within more than two years we will have built an almost 13-km long road that will relieve local residents from heavy transit traffic. This is an essential road also because it serves as a connection between D8 and D7 for a part of freight traffic. It replaces the partially non-existent northern section of the Prague Ring Road, which has been, unfortunately, obstructed by disputes about the route position," says the Transport Minister Dan Ťok.

The road will be eventually opened in one go, even though splitting in two phases was originally foreseen. The locals were however concerned if the entire road will really be completed. The total length of the relocation is approximately 13 354 m. The expected opening is in March 2020.

A total of 75 km of new motorways and 48 km of category I roads are currently under construction. On Tuesday, 12 December, minister Ťok started the construction of another extension of the D6 motorway in Karlovy Vary: the Central Bohemian part in sections Nové Strašecí - Řevničov and the actual bypass of Řevnicov.
