Drivers can already use the new section of the D3 motorway Borek – Úsilné. On Wednesday morning the transport minister Dan Ťok officially opened the section at an opening ceremony. The completed section will contribute to the reduction of the traffic intensity on the I/3 road in the municipality of Borek and in the connecting part of České Budějovice. The new road is faster and safer.

"We completed the three-kilometre long structure, which will also allow further transformation of the D3 and motorway and České Budějovice. This part of the motorway will connect to the bypass planned around the regional city. Work on the bypass is proceeding and we have ready the design prepared. We would like to start building next year," said the Transport Minister Dan Ťok.

The newly opened section connects to the existing I/3 road over Borek near České Budějovice and continues to road I/34 (České Budějovice – Jindřichův Hradec). Until the adjacent parts of the motorway have been completed, this section will remain free of motorway charges for motorists.

The construction of the section between Borek and Úsilné cost CZK 717.5 million (excluding VAT), which is a saving of 45% compared to the presumed construction cost of CZK 1.3 billion (excluding VAT). The construction took two and a half years and was done by Eurovia-Strabag-D3 Borek-Úsilné.

The South Bohemian part of the D3 motorway will supplement the new five-km section between Veselí nad Lužnicí and Bošilec. Drivers will be able to drive on it from October 12.
