RSD started major works on rebuilding the Rádelský mlýn overhead crossing on road I/35 on Tuesday, 14 April. Work has been in progress on the site since the beginning of March, during which the Jeřmanický stream was put into pipes. The existing overhead crossing, which has been in operation since 1973, no longer suits the traffic intensity and is the site of frequent traffic accidents.

The overhead crossing connects road I/35 Turnov – Liberec with road I/65 to Jablonec nad Nisou. The main reason for the rebuilding is to remove the collision point of the traffic directions Liberec – Jablonec with the directions Jablonec – Liberec and Turnov – Jablonec. To do this, it is necessary to build a direct branch of the crossing in the direction from Liberec to Jablonec. The unsatisfactory radius of the crossing will also be extended, making it possible to increase the maximum permitted speed.

Starting from Tuesday, 14 April, traffic at the construction site will be conducted in the left lane (from Liberec) in the 2+1 mode (i.e. 2 lanes for the direction Prague – Liberec and 1 lane for the direction Liberec – Prague). This year, work will be carried out to relocate the right lane to a new position, a part of the existing bridge over the branches of the crossing will be demolished and about a half of the new bridge for the direction Liberec – Jablonec will also be built.

Due to the progressing work on the Jeřmanický stream and the demolition of the part of the existing bridge over the branches of the crossing, the connection of Jablonec nad Nisou on road I/65 will be closed. RSD CR is aware of the complications and difficulties that this closure will bring, but the cramped conditions at the construction site, the nature of the works and the configuration of the terrain do not allow for construction without this limitation.

Detours, especially for trucks, will lead from Prague on road I/35 through Liberec and then on road I/14 to Jablonec nad Nisou. Drivers heading east from Jablonec nad Nisou will be able to use a detour leading from Turnov on road I/10 to Tanvald and then on road I/14 to Jablonec nad Nisou. A detour using road II/287 is another option.

The construction is proposed to be co-funded from the Operational Programme Transportation 2014–2020 from the European Regional Development Fund.
