ŘSD started construction of the D55 motorway between Olomouc and Kokory. The new motorway section will be operational in 2025. This makes the D55 motorway one of those that are in the most progressed stage of construction in the Czech Republic. Almost 30 km are currently under construction.

ŘSD, the Road and Motorway Directorate, starts construction of the D55 Olomouc – Kokory motorway
"This is the first part of the motorway link between Olomouc and Přerov, which will replace the already insufficient I/55 road. This new road with separated directions will significantly increase the safety and flow of traffic in the area. The motorway will also significantly improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of Krčmaň, from which all transit traffic will be diverted. We are also intensively preparing the second part of the motorway from Kokor to Přerov. We plan to announce a tender for the contractor during the next year, so that we can start construction in 2025," said Radek Mátl, director general of ŘSD.

The construction also includes the Majetín rest area on both sides of the motorway that will, however, only be put into operation together with the motorway section from Kokor to Přerov.

When completed, the D55 will be one of the backbone roads of the motorway network and connect the residential areas of central, south-eastern and southern Moravia. It will also replace the existing I/55 road, the capacity of which is already insufficient and does not accommodate the current traffic intensity.

The D55 will connect Olomouc and bypass Přerov, Hulín and Otrokovice where the regional town of Zlín will also be connected via the D49 motorway. Through the sections around Uherské Hradiště, Bzenec and Hodonín, the D55 will be connected to the D2 motorway near Břeclav in the future. There are currently 19 km in operation and 30 km under construction. When completed, the total length of the D55 motorway will be 100 km.

Construction is proposed for co-financing from the Cohesion Fund within the Transport Programme 2021-2027.
