If small carriers operating under the prepaid toll system fail to quickly fulfil their obligation to register and pick up a new on-board unit, the Czech Republic is at risk of traffic collapse in early December. While half of the large carriers operating in the post-paid regime have already made the necessary registration, only 5% of small carriers operating in the pre-paid regime have done so. Four weeks after the registrations were launched, 82 thousand vehicles have been registered in the system.

Minister of Transport Vladimír Kremlík personally tried to register for the new toll system in the pre-paid regime today at the Prague branch of the Czech Chamber of Commerce. It took him less than four minutes to register one vehicle and pay the refundable deposit for the on-board unit.

“The system of registration at sales points is fast and simple. That is why I urge carriers not to wait any longer and obtain new on-board units as soon as possible. This week, I will address a similar appeal to transport ministers in countries where carriers have very limited interest in registrations so far,” said Vladimír Kremlík.
CzechToll is concerned about the lack of interest in registrations, especially in case of carriers from Poland. They currently have approximately 117,000 domestic on-board units in their vehicles. However, only 15,000 vehicles have been registered in the new system by now. This is one of the reasons why CzechToll strengthened the information campaign in Poland beyond the original budget at the end of last week. In terms of statistics, carriers from the Czech Republic (41,000 vehicles registered) and Slovakia (8,000 vehicles) are the best in meeting the obligation to register their vehicles.

“Unless small carriers start picking up new on-board units on a mass scale, they will spend unnecessary hours in the queues at the turn of November and December. I would like to remind all carriers once again that the system will be launched despite legal disputes and that it is not advisable to postpone registration. The carriers have only a few weeks left to obtain a new on-board unit without unnecessary stress and waiting in queues,” said Matej Okáli, CEO of CzechToll.

With regard to the expected surge of carriers at the turn of November and December, CzechToll, in cooperation with the operators of the points of sale, ensured the strengthening of personnel capacities in order to handle as many carriers as possible. However, he recommends carriers to register as soon as possible, pay the refundable deposit for the on-board unit and prepare its installation in the vehicle. The Czech Chamber of Commerce also provided maximum support for the registration process.

“Over 15 specialized workplaces of the Chamber of Commerce have so far registered XY vehicles. The carriers will not only get all the information from our employees, but they can also buy installation kits for fixed attachment of the on-board unit in the vehicle. A great benefit is the possibility to book a specific time of visit and thus avoid any waiting,” added Vladimír Dlouhý, President of the Czech Chamber of Commerce.

Vehicle registration is possible at more than 200 points of sale, at 15 selected branches of the Chamber of Commerce, through the issuers of fuel card or on-line at www.mytocz.eu. In case of on-line registration, the carrier will receive a new on-board unit by post upon payment of the refundable deposit (free shipping applies to shipments within the Czech Republic, to Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia).

The carriers can find complete information on the new toll system on the www.mytocz.eu
