Drivers can start using road I/62 Děčín - Vilsnice in its new position on Monday, July 9. The relocated road is the last section in the complete rebuilding of roads I/13 and I/62 passing through Děčín, taking transit traffic away from the existing, unsatisfactory Ústecká street that passes through the city.

"The relocated road is very interesting from the technical point of view. We must realise that this is not a green-field project, but a structure lying within a city. This means that the project was facing many challenges such as significantly different routes of utilities and sand beddings, which brought many troubles with the road construction subject to stringent quality regulations. Many illegal dump sites, which somebody set up on the construction sites, had to be removed. Let me thank the contractor for its huge efforts to complete the project despite all these challenges", said the RSD CEO Jan Kroupa at the opening ceremony.

With the road in a new position, the traffic intensity in the commercial zone has decreased, safety has improved and the traffic is now smoother. Noise and emissions in the residential zone have also dropped. The entire section lies within the city of Děčín, so there is a speed limit of 50 km/h.

Road I/62 is the most frequently used road connecting the cities of Ústí nad Labem and Děčín. This road in the new position has great significance for this intercity connection and is, together with road I/13, part of the international route E442 – an important connection between regional centres and the industrial agglomeration of the regions of Karlovy Vary, Ústí nad Labem and Liberec.
