The minister of transport, Martin Kupka, commented on the current events in Ukraine:

"The Czech Republic is stepping up measures against Russian aggression in Ukraine. From 27th February, the Czech Republic is closing the airspace over their territory for all air traffic of Russian carriers. The Ministry of Transport follows Friday's decision to ban Russian carriers from arriving to, or departuring from, the Czech Republic, and the decision from the mid-week since when new permits for irregular Russian flights are no longer being issued."

České dráhy (ČD) dispatch special trains to Ukraine that are free of charge.

Passengers with a Ukrainian passport are allowed to travel on any ČD trains free of charge until further notice. This allow all passengers to catch Ukrainian trains from anywhere in the Czech Republic, on time and free of charge.

“Anyone who wishes to travel back to Ukraine to see their relatives, is allowed to travel with ČD free of charge. We also dispatch special trains in cooperation with Polish and Slovak railways, which operate from Bohumín to Přemyšl. Depending on interest, we will add more trains,” added Mr Kupka.

Special trains consist of ca. 12 carriages for ca. 700 – 800 passengers and also include carriages for luggage. These are regular ČD carriages as well as high-capacity mail trains provided by ČD CARGO. ČD also ensure that language employees are available at each train all the way up to Poland.
