The Ministry of Transport does not recommend postponing roadworthiness checks and encourages drivers to book a date in case of extended validity of their roadworthiness test. The European Omnibus II regulation extended the validity of regular checks, which expired or would have expire between 1 September 2020 and 31 June 2021, by 10 months. However, the current epidemiological situation allows booking a date at Periodic Technical Inspections (PTI) stations. The main priority is safety on roads.

“The PTI stations are opened and no restrictions apply to them. Therefore, we recommend to all vehicle owners not to wait until the extended validity of roadworthiness check expires and to head over to the PTI station, unless compelling reasons of health”, said the minister of transport Karel Havlíček.

The PTI or emission measurement stations had not been closed or otherwise limited in their activities. On 12 April 2021, the government lifted the travelling ban between regions, which means that drivers, who are not limited by other measures such as a quarantine or self-isolation, can book a date for roadworthiness check. The Ministry of Transport would like to avoid the issue of an increased interest and longer waiting periods after the extended validity expires.

The extended validity of roadworthiness check is purely administrative; the vehicle must be roadworthy for driving on roads.

You can find the nearest PTI station on an interactive map created by the Ministry.
