"You will find most construction sites on the Brno D1 motorway, the South Bohemian D3, the Karlovy Vary D6, the Olomouc D35, the Chomutov D7, the Hradec Králové D11 and the entire D48 including the bypass of Frýdek-Místek and connection to D56 and the bypass of Otrokovice on the D55. This means that 187 km of motorways and category I roads are under construction at the moment," says the transport minister Dan Ťok.

A total of 128 km of new motorways are under construction, of which 21 is the modernisation of the D1. Also, 59 km are upgrades on category I roads. In 2018 a total of 45 km of roads opened – of this 26 km of motorways were re-built between Prague and Brno, 4 km were built on the D7 and 15 km on category I roads.

"I cannot open dozens of new motorway kilometres on the green field when nobody started any works before 2014, because preparation works were completely stopped in 2010. Today, new motorways and bypasses are built so quickly that construction companies cannot offer any further capacity," the minister adds. The standard construction period is between two and three years and four years for more challenging projects.
