If there are casualties, injuries or material damage to vehicles exceeds CZK 100,000, the parties involved in a traffic accident are obliged to report it to the Police of the Czech Republic. The police has to be present also if the accident caused material damage to third person property, damages or destruction of road (incl. its parts) or if the parties involved cannot ensure renewal of smooth traffic by themselves.

In these cases, do not move the vehicles (to ensure proper investigation), mark the place and facts and wait at the place of the accident until arrival of the police.

Obligations of a driver involved in a traffic accident

image002.png Refrain from use of alcohol or drugs.

image002.png Take precautions to avoid other damages to persons or things.

image002.png Cooperate during collection of facts.
 

Obligations of parties involved in a traffic accident

  image002.pngTake precautions to avoid compromising safe traffic and if necessary stop other vehicles.
      
image002.png  Provide first aid, call emergency and report the accident to the police.
   
image002.png  Mark the place of traffic accident.
   
image002.png   Facilitate renewal of traffic (especially for public transport).
  
image002.png  Notify the police about damages to roads, publicly used device or the environment.
   
image002.png  When asked to provide an identification document and information about vehicles.
  

Drivers have to have at their disposal:
  • Driving licence;
  • Vehicle registration certificate;
  • Confirmation of liability insurance for damage caused by operation of a vehicle;
  • Confirmation of medical fitness (drivers over 65 years);
  • Professional competence certificate for a specific group of vehicles (professional drivers).
(If the technical inspection of a vehicle is performed in other Member State, the driver also has to have a certificate from the last roadworthiness check. If the vehicle is registered in other Member State, the driver has to have a certificate from the last regular roadworthiness check.)
