From June 1, drivers have an opportunity to make changes in vehicle register at any office of a municipality with extended competence. Up to now, it has been necessary to come to the department at the place of permanent residence or registered office. About 3,000 people used the new car registration opportunity on the first day.

During the whole Thursday of June 1, about 8,700 visitors from across the country arrived in the car registration office, of which 3,000 made a change in another department than where they had been obliged to do so until then. Converted to percentage points, approximately 34% of visitors took advantage of a simpler way of writing changes to the registry.

"According to the first data, it is clear that people welcome the simplification of contact with the department and have begun making immediate use of these new opportunities. The change will make it significantly easier for them to, for example, arrange for a new vehicle to be registered or a change the owner," says Transport Minister Dan Ťok.

Any office of a municipality with extended competence now allows the users not only to change the owner or operator of a registered vehicle, but also register a new or imported vehicle, decommission the vehicle (so-called deposit), terminate the vehicle, apply for a customised registration plate or bike carrier or register the towing equipment or trailer.

To make sure that people avoid queues when visiting the department, the Ministry of Transport recommends using wherever possible the on-line ordering system for an exact time.  The map of all departments of municipalities with extended competence that can be searched as the most suitable place to visit is available on the Ministry of Transport website here.

The possibility to carry out operations in the vehicle registry in any department is not the only change that the amendment to the Act on the conditions for the operation of vehicles on the road has brought since 1 June. You can find more information about the other changes here.
