Registering a used vehicle from an EU country

Registering a vehicle in the Vehicles Registry – used road vehicle imported from another EU member state

The person authorised to act is generally the natural or legal person who will be entered in the Vehicle Registry as the owner of the vehicle or, in case of a joint application, the owner and the person who is named in the application as the operator of the vehicle.

document.png What to bring to the office?

  • application for registration of a road vehicle in Vehicle Registry (in CZ language only)
  • Identity document
  • original or legally verified copy of the trade licence or extract from the commercial registry (for company cars)
  • proof of roadworthiness: technical certificate and registration certificate issued by another member state
  • decision of the municipal authority of the municipality with extended competence, approving the roadworthiness of an individually imported vehicle if the vehicle does not have the type approval of the WVTA manufacturer or whose type has not been approved by a ministry or authority of another member state with validity in all member states
  • documentation containing data to the extent necessary for technical certificate award, if not contained in the roadworthiness certificate
  • technical inspection certificate of the vehicle
  • vehicle inspection report
  • green card (proof of insurance against liability in respect of the use of the vehicle)
  • proof of permanent or long-term residence or asylum in the Czech Republic; for citizens of another EU member state – proof of temporary residence lasting at least 6 months per calendar year
  • proof of payment of the value added tax (if registering within six months of first registration or if the mileage is less than 6 000 kilometres)

krizek.png  The administrative fee is CZK 800 (for a vehicle with at least 4 wheels), CZK 700 (trailer over 750 kg), CZK 500 (trailer up to 750 kg), CZK 500 (motorcycle over 50 cc), 300 Kč (motorcycle up to 50 cc)

 

For road vehicles of category M1 or N1 that do not meet at least the EURO 3 emission standard, a fee of CZK 10 000 (EURO 0), CZK 5 000 (EURO 1), CZK 3 000 (EURO 2) (to support the collection, processing, recovery and disposal of selected car wrecks) must also be paid.​

  The licence plates will be given to you without delay (mostly on the spot) and within 30 days in more complex cases.
